One of the most ambitious project when leading my own guiding company, was to organize winter expeditions to Kjerag in the Lysefjord. The mountain area around this famous hiking destination has a very harsh climate, especially in wintertime. So for establishing a winter tent base camp there, I turned to the experts: Hilleberg – the tentmaker.

In November 2017 I traveled to their headquarters in Seattle, USA, to discuss sponsorship and go through their collection of winter tents. It was a very successful business trip: the Hilleberg team was extremely friendly and hospitable. They gave me the best advice, and I traveled back home to Norway with a sponsorship, and the best tents available on the market for winter expeditions.

To get the most out of my stay in Seattle, I rented a car and drove to Mt Rainier National Park for some hiking, and to see how they deal with trail and visitor management. Unfortunately, the snow had come early this year, and all the trails and access roads were closed. However, the road trip around Mount Rainier and through the Cascades was very scenic. Washington State and the Cascades are truly hiking destinations I have to return to!
